Notes and tips for assembly

SLA 3D printing models

1. The majority of our modeling items are manufactured using the latest 3D SLA printing technology. This allows for the highest level of detail, but also requires careful handling. We recommend leaving the supports underneath the model as a painting aid. Before painting/weathering, we recommend cleaning the item in isopropanol to ensure a clean, grease-free surface.

2. After drying, ideally apply an airbrush or acrylic paint. If necessary, apply a thin coat of primer beforehand. After drying, cut out and apply any included wet decals by soaking in water for a few seconds and sliding of the base-foil. Age as desired, e.g., with wash or powder paints.

3. Carefully remove the supports, e.g., with side cutters or nail scissors. If necessary, sand the base flat with fine sandpaper. Attach to the model (railway) layout with, e.g., superglue gel.

Waterslide decals

1. Waterslide decals allow for highly detailed replicas of signs and lettering printed on the thinnest plastic films. Cut the signs out slightly too generously with nail scissors or a sharp scalpel (a small white border will remain).

2. Now, using an old nail file, carefully sand the edge until it's completely smooth. In our experience, this produces clean (straight and round) cut edges, and any thin, white border that may be present appears even more realistic (for example, on our traffic signs).

3. Now soak the cut-out shield in a solution of lukewarm water and a splash of dish soap for a few seconds. The foil will detach from the backing paper and can be carefully applied to the painted model using tweezers. After application, allow it to dry thoroughly, then apply a clear varnish and weather it as desired.
